The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
