Liverpool's Manager Provides No Excuses and Vows to Find Way Out of Slump

Arne Slot declared he had to “examine my own performance” following Liverpool endured a 6th loss in seven Premier League games on their own turf against Forest and affirmed he would discover a way out of the title holders' poor run.

Forest, in the relegation zone before kick off, delivered the largest victory at Anfield in their history as Liverpool slipped to an eighth defeat in eleven fixtures in all competitions. The British record signing, the Swedish striker, was once more unnoticeable and Liverpool contended Murillo’s opener should have been ruled out for similar reasons to Virgil van Dijk’s disallowed effort versus City before the national team pause. But the manager conceded the responsibility stopped with him and offered no alibis.

“No one wishes to hear me now speaking about refereeing decisions if you lose 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest,” said the Liverpool head coach. “I should look at my own role first and my squad, but it demonstrates you how a goal can change the flow of a game. Before I was just hoping for us to score a goal. Afterwards we barely created any chances.

“Of course there is a path forward, particularly with the talented footballers we have. No matter if you win or are beaten when you look back you are always considering: ‘In which areas can we do better, in what aspects can we adjust?’ but that is something else from questioning your abilities.

“I want to stress I am responsible for the present losses. You are answerable when you are victorious but also responsible when you are losing. I can not come up with sufficient reasons for us to have the results we have. That is not acceptable and I am to blame for that.”

The team's performance fell apart as the coach introduced multiple attacking changes when chasing the match. “It was the identical on the road at Forest last season,” he remarked. “I substituted Ibou [Ibrahima Konaté] off and put on [Diogo] Jota and he scored immediately to equalize at 1-1. Then it was courageous, now it’s likely unwise.”

Liverpool last lost back-to-back at Anfield league games by Nottingham Forest in 1963. The most recent occasion they lost back-to-back league games by a three-goal margin was in the mid-60s.

The manager commented: “It was very bad. Competing on home soil, conceding 3-0 regardless of which opponent you encounter is a very, very bad result. Unexpected if you look at the first half-hour of the game. I did not witness us creating so many chances in the initial half-hour maybe the whole season, and the first time they entered in our box they scored.

“It wasn’t against Manchester City, but in all other fixture we have been the dominant team and were able to generate chances. Recently it is almost constantly that we fail to convert our chances and the ones we allow find the net.”
