Dominant Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Top Player Accolades.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four tournament victories – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of High Performance
Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and picked up a historic £11m in prize money.
She earned nearly eighty percent of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking 13-month break following the arrival of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after securing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
