Aid work in Gaza
The GHF had suspended its relief locations in Gaza subsequent to the ceasefire took effect last month

The debated, American and Israeli-supported GHF aid organization says it is concluding its relief activities in the Gaza region, after almost six months.

The organisation had already suspended its multiple aid distribution centers in Gaza subsequent to the halt in hostilities between Palestinian factions and Israel came into force six weeks ago.

The GHF aimed to circumvent United Nations channels as the primary provider of humanitarian assistance to Gazans.

International relief agencies refused to co-operate with its methodology, saying it was unethical and unsafe.

Many residents were killed while seeking food amid chaotic scenes near the organization's distribution points, primarily from Israeli forces, based on UN documentation.

The Israeli military claimed its forces fired alerting fire.

Program Termination

The organization declared on Monday that it was concluding activities now because of the "successful completion of its humanitarian effort", with a cumulative three million shipments containing the amounting to in excess of 187 million sustenance units distributed to Gazans.

The GHF's executive director, the executive director, further mentioned the US-led Civil-Military Coordination Centre (CMCC) - which has been created to help implement the United States' Palestinian peace proposal - would be "taking over and developing the system the foundation tested".

"The organization's system, in which Palestinian factions were unable to divert and benefit from humanitarian assistance, was significantly influential in getting Hamas to the table and achieving a ceasefire."

Comments and Positions

Hamas - which denies stealing aid - welcomed the closure of the humanitarian foundation, as indicated by media.

An official from said the foundation should be held accountable for the negative impact it created to Gazans.

"We call upon all global human rights groups to guarantee that responsibility is assigned after leading to casualties and wounds of many residents and concealing the food deprivation strategy employed by the Israeli authorities."

Operational Background

The organization commenced activities in Gaza on 26 May, a week after Israeli authorities had somewhat relaxed a complete restriction on humanitarian and trade shipments to Gaza that persisted for nearly three months and caused severe shortages of essential supplies.

Subsequently, a food crisis was announced in Gaza City.

The foundation's nourishment distribution centers in various parts of the Palestinian territory were administered by US private security contractors and located inside areas controlled by Israeli forces.

Aid Organization Objections

United Nations agencies and their collaborators said the methodology violated the basic relief guidelines of non-partisanship, even-handedness and self-determination, and that guiding distressed residents into militarised zones was intrinsically hazardous.

The UN's human rights office stated it documented the fatalities of no fewer than 859 Gazans trying to acquire sustenance in the proximity to foundation locations between spring and summer months.

Another 514 people were lost their lives close to the paths taken by United Nations and additional relief shipments, it also mentioned.

The majority of these individuals were fatally wounded by the Israeli forces, based on the agency's reports.

Conflicting Accounts

Israel's armed services said its troops had discharged cautionary rounds at people who approached them in a "threatening" way.

The foundation stated there were no shootings at the aid sites and claimed the international organization of using "untrue and confusing" statistics from the Palestinian health authority administered by Hamas.

Future Implications

The GHF's future had been uncertain since militant groups and the Israeli government approved a truce agreement to implement the first phase of the American administration's peace initiative.

It said aid distribution would take place "without interference from the involved factions through the international bodies and their affiliates, and the humanitarian medical organization, in addition to other global organizations not connected in any way" with Palestinian factions and Israeli authorities.

International organization official the international body's communicator stated recently that the foundation's closure would have "no influence" on its operations "since we never collaborated with them".

The official further mentioned that while increased relief was entering the region since the halt in hostilities began on early October, it was "not enough to meet all the needs" of the 2.1 million residents.
