Alleged Stalker Questioned: 'However What If I Am Madeleine?'
A individual accused with stalking Kate McCann allegedly recorded her a phone message which questioned: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who court testimony revealed has repeatedly asserted she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial accused with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court heard call records and evidence recovered from phones documented Ms Wandelt repeatedly demanding Madeleine's mother for a genetic test throughout 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a family holiday in Portugal - is considered the most widely reported child disappearance cases and continues to be open.
'I Do Not Need Money'
Another phone message, shared in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine used to be, but I know what I believe."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording said: "What if there is a small chance that I'm her? What then? Is that not significant for you?"
"I do not need money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I only wish to understand," the recording stated.
The panel was told that by means of emails, mobile messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a DNA test, sent childhood photos to her phone in a effort to display a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "flashbacks" from a early life with the McCanns.
The investigator, a data specialist with Leicestershire Police who gathered the information, told the court there "seemed to lack any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally reached out to family friends of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.
On that date, Mr McCann answered a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "incorrect contact information."
During that incident Ms Wandelt left a message on Mrs McCann's recording declaring "I will persist and I will prove my claim."
The court was informed Mrs Spragg developed a relationship through digital means with Ms Wandelt prior to assisting her on a appearance to the McCanns' residence in Leicestershire in that winter.
Communication data showed Mrs Spragg had contacted using communication app to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the months preceding the trip to the village, that area, in that winter.
The court was told message exchanges between the two defendants, in November 2024, considering attempting to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from utensils at a eating establishment.
"We have to take action," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the visit to their residence, the defendant transmitted a text which expressed: "We find ourselves positioned outside the McCanns' house with our vehicle dark like investigators. I had hoped to achieve this with someone else I hadn't anticipated I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The case continues.
